About PDF Swing
PDF Swing is a free online toolkit for everyday PDF work — merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing, protecting and editing PDF files. It exists for a simple reason: most people just need to get one PDF task done quickly, without installing software, creating an account, paying for a subscription, or handing their personal documents to a company they have never heard of.
Wherever it is technically possible, our tools run directly inside your web browser using open-source libraries such as pdf-lib, pdf.js, Fabric.js and Tesseract.js. That means files like your Aadhaar, PAN card, marksheets and bank statements are processed on your own device and never uploaded to a server. For heavier tasks that genuinely need server processing (such as some document conversions and OCR), files are processed and then removed — we do not keep them.
We pay special attention to the things Indian users actually struggle with: exam and recruitment portals that demand a PDF under 100 KB, application forms that need several documents merged into one file in a specific order, scanned Hindi and Marathi documents that need OCR, and sensitive documents that need a password removed or an ID number redacted before sharing.
Who runs PDF Swing
PDF Swing is an independent project based in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is not part of a large software company, there is no advertising on the site, and we don’t sell data. The tools are free to use, with no account.
Because we are based in India, we design around the paperwork Indian users actually deal with: exam and recruitment portals with strict file-size limits, application forms that need several certificates merged in a set order, password-protected bank statements and e-Aadhaar files, and scanned Hindi and Marathi documents that need OCR.
How our tools handle your files
Seventeen of our 26 tools — including Merge, Split, Compress, Unlock, Sign, Redact, OCR and Compare — run entirely in your web browser. Your file is read from your device, processed in memory and saved back to your downloads; it is never sent to us.
Nine jobs need software that browsers don’t have: converting Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, converting PDFs back to those formats, turning a web page into a PDF, adding a password with encryption, and editing existing text in Edit PDF. For those, the file is sent over HTTPS, processed immediately and deleted as soon as the result is returned. Every tool page says which kind it is, right under its title, and our privacy policy lists the details tool by tool.
Built on proven open-source software
We build on well-known open-source projects rather than reinventing them: pdf-lib for creating and editing PDFs, Mozilla’s pdf.js for rendering pages, Tesseract for OCR, Fabric.js for the editor’s drawing layer, JSZip for downloads with many files, and LibreOffice and Ghostscript on the server for office conversions and encryption. We are grateful to the people who maintain them.
How we write our guides
Our guides are written and tested by the PDF Swing team against the tools as they work today. Each one says plainly which steps happen in your browser and which use our server. Where a bank, portal or government body sets its own rules — file-size limits, password formats, document order — we describe what is common and tell you to check the official instructions rather than presenting guesses as rules. When a tool changes, we update the guides that describe it and show the date of the last update at the top.
What we believe
Free should mean free — no watermarks stamped on your documents, no forced sign-ups, no email walls, and no daily limits on the core tools. Privacy should be the default, not a paid upgrade. And a tool should explain, honestly, whether your file is handled in your browser or on a server, so you can decide what you are comfortable with.
